Food and canal watching

Posted on May 1, 2026 by Ella

I neglected to mention, yesterday in Bruges we had, according to the waiter, the most traditional, local dish you can have: Flemish beef stew in beer sauce served with fries and a small salad. Sorry, the only thing I took a picture of was…

The name of the beer is cleverly painted onto the glass

Today, after all the protest excitement, we were walking along a narrow boardwalk over a canal feeling peckish. Portuguese! Lovely. And because it was a Portuguese restaurant, we each ordered a different preparation of cod. I had an Aperol spritz (or two) to accompany the meal.

Grubb’s meal. COD with some kind of sauce. I always forget to take a picture of the menu

As we ate, we watched people celebrating Labor Day by cruising the canal.

kayaking
Paddle boarding
Motoring
Cruising

Once in a while the correct response is, in fact, a question, like “where’s the beef” and that response is acceptable but players generally say “ What is ‘where’s the beef’” out of an abundance of caution.

Re: Protests-It seems like raising a fist is good anywhere you do it!

COD made the world in many ways I think. What a pretty place to be in.
