Uncomfortably hot and humid, we opted not to attempt a hike today. After a low-key morning walk we decided to visit a local glass blowing studio called Glass Hollow. A glass shaping lesson was in progress so we only watched for a few moments and then stepped into the air conditioned gallery. The gallery is only a year old with about 30 local artists displaying their work not only in glass but pottery, textile and jewelry as well.

Further down the road, we ducked into Mountain House Trading Company where we learned all about mead making. I’ve heard of mead but never knew much about it. Honey is fermented and then flavorings added. I convinced the gals to share a flight of Mead. I quite enjoyed a couple of them but others were a bit over the top with the flavors, they could’ve used a little more subtlety. But yeah, just a matter of personal taste. We talked to the young man staffing the place and it turns out he is an apprentice mead maker and we were sampling his handiwork.
