Silence? That’s what we hear. Hmmm. We will get to that.
Japan is a place full of natural beauty, shrines (Shinto) and temples (Buddhist), and superb public transportation. There will be crowds to navigate – especially the big cities like Osaka and Tokyo. Mountains, active volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis (hoping we don’t have those last two during our visit). Cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, giant wisteria. And food. What’s your favorite Japanese food?
Today is soooooo yesterday. We are a day ahead so you all will have to catch up. We are 15 hours ahead of Albuquerque. There is only one time zone in Japan and its Standard Time year round.
Here is the plan. We fly into Osaka (arrived March 25) – in the middle of Japan and then head south and west. Starting in Osaka, ending in Kyoto going the long way round.
We have one breather day in Osaka to get ourselves organized for our first adventure: walking the Kumano Kodo on the Kii peninsula. Where we may run into leeches, brown bears, macaques, and maybe even other humans.

From Kyoto, we head north and east easing our way around and down to the massive Tokyo.

Don’t forget to Subscribe so you can remember to come along with us. Might be a couple of days before our next post.
A ha. So, it’s 7:04 am in Japan right now. I wonder if you are up? How is the jet lag? I would think it would be intense. I’m looking forward to reading about your travels!
Yes, we are awake. It was nice to arrive here in the evening and just crash. Had an interesting Japanese breakfast, couldn’t tell you what any of it was called except the miso soup, And tea.
Greetings! Miso soup is a Japanese treat wherever you are. Your arrival in Japan sounds pretty: “comprehensive,” (via Grubb), fingerprints and all- they don’t mess around.
You are really going to see some beautiful and interesting things. It’s so nice to see maps of Japan and to learn more about it.
It is evening time for you right now and I hope this day has been a great one on Kii.
I’ve always loved miso soup, and miso anything. Yep, the Japanese are thorough on the entry procedures for sure. And we will be off in the morning for the Kii peninsula. An interesting adventure!
