Weather and geologic stuff happen all the time here. There is an app for that. Safety Tips gives you the latest info about earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones and volcanic eruptions. Earthquakes especially are common here and all new buildings (1990s I think and later) are superbly engineered for earthquake resilience. If you allow the app to know your location, it will notify you of severe weather and geologic events where you are. There is an earthquake warning system which gives you up to 20 seconds warning. For us elders, that’s just enough time to say “was that my phone making that noise?”
