Load of wash accomplished. This apartment in Fukuoka comes with a washing machine but no dryer. Not uncommon anywhere we’ve traveled (lack of dryer).

Lack of dryer necessitates draping the damp clothes over every available surface and hoping they will dry in a day or two. Sometimes I get desperate and use a hair dryer (provided as an amenity) to hurry the drying process.
But oh these Japanese. So clever. A bathroom air dryer does the trick.
So first you should know, Japanese “bathrooms” are just that. A tub (suitably deep) and a shower (outside the tub) occupy one closed in space. Toilet in its own closed in space. Sink in yet another space. Bathrooms are for bathing.
Side note: The bathing room in our Kagoshima hotel room was a dream.

Above the tub, mounted on the ceiling is a ventilation system which can serve to ventilate the area and to flood the area with very warm air, specifically for drying clothes or bodies. There is even a bar over the tub on which one can hang or drape one’s damp clothes.

We took advantage and presto, it only took an hour or two and most of the clothes were dry. The air is quite warm but I wouldn’t say hot. There may or may not be a temperature setting. There is a timer setting but we left it at what it was: one hour 50 minutes.
