I’ve been wanting to try these. Lots of hype about this street food. Finally tried it today at a little place at the port. Takoyaki, often called “octopus balls” by us foreigners, are kind of like fried dumplings. A wheat-based batter fried with a piece of octopus meat inside. Seasoning and sauces vary. They were delicious. Somehow, not greasy, the taste was flavorful and the meat tender.

I added a sochu lemon cocktail to wash them down with. All the cocktails I’ve had are pretty diluted. Just enough alcohol for a taste.

It was a mid day snack in lieu of lunch since we’re off to the New Olympia restaurant/pub for dinner tonight. Not many choices here on the island. Last night we went to a bar/pub called Cin.na.mon. Yes, just like that. It was meh. We might have been better off getting dinner from the 7/11. Trust me, it would have been better and quicker.
I’ve never liked octopus here in Spain but those fried dumplings sound really good.
They were good and I imagine you could put and bit of meat inside. I guess you didn’t have any grilled octopus in Portugal. 😉
