Throughout our visit to Japan we constantly come across groups of girls or boys dressed in secondary school uniforms. We never see the high school age kids mix genders as they walk too or from school. At first I thought, that’s a lot of private schools! Then I found out that, “While relationships are common in schools worldwide, they are strictly forbidden in Japanese schools. If students are caught dating or even showing affection like hugging or kissing, they face punishment.”
There’s even a Japanese TV show called “Chastity High” about the first group of boys to integrate in an all-girls high school. The dramatic tension comes about as a boy and girl start flirting.
