Descending from the Kenrokuen Garden we made it to the Omichi Market.

The green curtain hanging halfway down at the entrance is a known as a “noren”. Norens hang over entrances to places that serve food. They ward off heat and provide a sense of privacy.

The Omichi Market featured a large emporium of food stalls. It was a great place to have a walking lunch if you liked fish. First, we had yakatori eel on a stick. Then crab cakes. Then seaweed seasoned with a sweet soy sauce. And finally we finished our grazing with a sashimi bowl of five different kinds of seafood. Ella had saki and I had cold oolong tea which I’ve become accustomed to ordering with meals.
