Yesterday, after our Vermeer sampler, it was time to go to grab a bite at my favorite broodje stand in the whole world that Hendrik introduced me to years ago.

The secret to a broodje is fresh herring. And a sign of fresh herring are the seagulls that want to steal your snack.

Once the broodje herring roll is gobbled, you want to soar up like a seagull lifting off. Not being blessed with wings, we had to settle for climbing the tower next to the broadje stand that looks like it’s been assembled with left over scaffolding.

At the top of the tower eight stories up, there is a viewing platform where people can peer through a chain link fence. As the flexible metal tower gently swayed in the breeze, we could scope out the spread of den Haag below.
