Yesterday (Sunday), we had a last coffee and chat with Esther in Delft at a place called Anne&Max. Sadly, we said our goodbyes and hopped a train for Rotterdam. 12 minutes later, we stepped off the train in Rotterdam Centraal, headed down to the metro, took line D and just a few stops later popped up in the dock area right across from our hotel.

We’ve been to Rotterdam several times and always loved it just as we have Delft and den Haag. Rotterdam has a different, more cosmopolitan feel. It’s larger, for one thing. And was completely rebuilt after being bombed into near total destruction by Germany in the war. Thus a more modern feel with some unique architecture.

There are a lot of young Americans (judging from their voices) here. Perhaps they are ex-pats who have fled the over-touristed streets of Amsterdam. Or they’ve all decided to do their year abroad here. Whatever. It seems Rotterdam is their cool place to be.

We may have stumbled across a few quirky sculptures and will be on the lookout today for more.

Having changed our itinerary at the last minute in order to stay in Rotterdam for a few days, our choices in acceptable lodging were slim. We couldn’t find a decent apartment so we are at a modest hotel (Haven Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton). I won’t be writing glowing reports about the view but the room is absolutely fine. We feel confident we can stay together in one room for a few days without killing each other. 🤪
