Wow, it’s May 1st. Remember May poles? Bright ribbons and flower garlands? Not the same thing here. Nope, it’s Labor Day. That means more things are closed. And Labor Day here is similar to Labor Day in the U.S. Celebrating workers. Except in the U.S., we’d never take it on a Sunday. We make it a Monday so we can party for a three day weekend.
We’ve sworn off public transportation for the remainder of the trip. Because although masks are still required on busses, trains, trams, metro and most people are very good about it…still, it can get crowded and we have that hurdle to leap – a Covid test on Tuesday with negative results so we can board the plane home on Wednesday. So sticking to the straight and narrow now, mostly.
A long winded way of saying we gotta hoof it or Uber it from now on.
This morning, Grubb suggested LX Factory and maybe Museu do Oriente afterwards. Another perfect weather day so we embarked on the 30 minute walk.
We didn’t get far before Mr. Coffee junkie had to fill his tank. But there are always views to somewhere.
What is LX Factory? An old industrial area, renovated into an open air arty retail market thingie. Kitsch by the shelf-full.
And a new Bordalo II sighting…a bee.
On to the Museum do Oriente, full of Asian finery. Some nice visuals on the way.
At the Museu do Oriente. Maybe one could describe some of it as ancient kitsch.
And on to the restaurant search where we settled on a pizzaria not far from the apartment. We both hankered for the penne with pesto and ricotta and weren’t disappointed when it arrived. We started the meal off with super cheesy, super garlicky garlic bread. Geesh Ella and Grubb, why would you go Italian in Portugal? Cuz that’s where the Portuguese were eating and the French waiter was cute.
