I’m watching the sun rise through a smudged window on the 5th floor of the Hampton Inn in Sterling, Va. if you are not familiar, Sterling borders Dulles which is home to the Dulles International Airport (IAD). Right next to Washington DC.

I am meeting my 3 college roommates for a fun time. Margaret, Nancy, Claudia and I shared an apartment in Berkeley for a year oh so many years ago (okay, okay, something like 56 years ago). Margaret lives in Bethesda, MD, about an hour’s drive from here so that’s our destination today.
I wasn’t planning to blog about this trip but outside of lounging, having deep and meaningful conversations, and sipping (alcoholic drinks, what else?), we will be investigating the area. Maybe some places you’ve been or want to go or never heard of.
We will spend some time in Bethesda and then drive along the rolling Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia to the Charlottesville area where lies Monticello and Montpelier.
I arrived first, yesterday, and took myself on a fine outing to the National Air and Space Museum where I gawked nerdily at the Space shuttle Discovery. Separate post. Nancy arrived next, we met up and walked to O’Malley’s Pub where it was, ha ha, Music Bingo Night. Fueled with a gin fizz, I totally failed the bingo game so no free appetizers for me.
