6 days to go. I am busily looking up the latest travel apps, keeping my eye on Covid stats in Portugal (looking very good – no sign of another surge yet), reading about the history of Portugal (well, Grubb is doing the reading but he tells me stuff), learning some Portuguese (I might learn some words but my pronunciation is mangled). The whole learning Portuguese thing got a little tricky. Portugal Portuguese is different than Brazilian Portuguese. I have to be sure I’m learning the right Portuguese.
The really important thing is to know how to order coffee. Uma café (one coffee) will get you a shot of espresso. Uma café duplo will get you a double shot. You can order with extra hot water, although it’s not really an Americano – just a little extra water. You can order with a little milk but it’s not really a latte or a cappuccino. You can order a kid’s coffee which is half coffee, half milk. That’s all I know so far.
Yikes! Today, the FDA approved a second booster for us oldsters. Should we run out and get one before departure? We’d better decide fast. I think we may just wait til we get back.
We had to finish the latest of many pandemic jigsaw puzzles. Wynette – it’s all yours if you want it ;}
I’ve been in contact with Carlos and Clara, the hosts of our AirBnB in Lisbon. They have graciously agreed to let us check in early. Our flight lands in Lisbon at 8:30am so it’s lovely to know we can go straight to the apartment to freshen up, have a little rest and then head out for our first exploration. According to the bio on AirBnB, Carlos is a doctor practicing homeopathic and Chinese medicine in a care center in the same building as our apartment.
If you know the Lisbon area – here is a map showing where we are staying for the first week.
