After coffee, We made our way to Delft to meet old friend Esther. She invited us to spend the afternoon and evening (which included a home cooked meal). Esther had suggested we take the tram to Delft instead of the train. It is only 17 km between Den Haag and Delft.
We did take the tram. Or rather…tried. Half way to Delft, the tram stopped. A long winded explanation (in Dutch) came over the speakers from the conductor. All we understood was the word “Delft”. And people started getting off the tram. We asked a fellow passenger who informed us that something was broken and no tram would be getting to Delft today. New plan. Take a tram back to the train station and board the next train to Delft. We muddled through. It all worked out.
Esther lives in an area called Agnetapark, built in the late 1800s as housing for the workers in a nearby factory. Now a protected UNESCO Heritage site.
Esther picked us up at the train station. We had a nice chat and a misty stroll around the grounds of Agnetapark.
We were later joined by Esther’s daughter Tess, her husband Josh and their two daughters Cleo and Juno. We, of course, knew Tess and Josh but the girls had both come along since we had last seen them.
A wonderful meal, great conversation and then to the train for the 15 minute ride back to Den Haag.
