Louisiana Museum of Modern Art that is. Located in the town of Humlebaek, 37 km north of Copenhagen. We took a regional train up the coast (that would be the east coast of Denmark).
If you look at a map, you’ll see that Denmark and Sweden are separated by the Øresund Sound. In fact, on Monday we will be crossing the Sound by train over the Øresund Bridge to get to Malmö in Sweden. The sound eventually becomes the Baltic Sea at the south end and the North Sea at the northern end.
Back to today…we got off the train at none other than Humlebaek Station in the little town of…Humlebaek. There was a Saturday flea market in the grassy square and as we made the 10 minute walk up the main road to the museum, it seemed that there was a white Tesla in every other driveway.
Grubb will say more about the museum but I do want to say that I was excited to discover a new (to me) artist: Dana Schutz. An American living in New York. Her subject matter perhaps on the noir side but her paintings told interesting stories about the world. Some would say realistic but not happy stories.
It seems like the pre-graffiti the trains so taggers won’t. Do you see much graffiti?
We do seem some graffiti but not a lot.
Wondering why it is called Louisiana?
That seemed odd to me too. Grubb looked it up. Turns out, the guy who built the museum had three wives, all named Louise.
