After our expedition to the Louisiana Museum of Art, we thought we’d explore one of the “bros”. There are several neighborhoods around Copenhagen with names that end in “bro”. Grubb arbitrarily picked Norrebro and we hopped on the metro and popped up at a station in the middle of the area. Just so happens there was a cemetery right there. How could we not stop in?
In previous travels, I have made a point of seeking out cemeteries. Why? I am intrigued by the different designs in layout and individual graves sites and what insights that may yield about how that culture embraces the notion of death. I also find it gives me a moment to reflect on the the lives that have come and gone.
I couldn’t read the year on this one but probably pretty old. The swan(?) is drooping protectively. Or at least that was our interpretation.
Newer 1900’s to present featured this common design element. A circular space defined by a hedge. Some gravestones inside and some around the outside. Many of the gravestones were rough hewed stone.
