We are generally pretty casual about when and where we eat our main meal of the day. Often we just stop at the first place where the menu looks good to us both. Sometimes, someone we’ve chatted with will recommend a place. Yesterday though, Grubb was hankering specifically for seafood so he did a little googling and came up with Sjöbaren, which claims to serve fresh seafood from the port of Gothenburg. We didn’t make a reservation, not sure when we’d be ready to eat. When we showed up, it turns out, if you don’t have a reservation, you are welcome to dine in the courtyard behind the restaurant. Gosh, banished from the stuffy interior to a lovely airy courtyard? Okay by us.
A great meal. I had fish au gratin with fancied up potatoes. The fish was perfectly cooked cod topped with tiny shrimp. Grubb had fish soup served with fresh garlic bread. I ordered a sangria. That was the only disappointment. Well, of course Ella. Why on earth would one order a sangria in Sweden?
Ooh, that looks amazing. Strange, we passed a restaurant yesterday here in Pontevedra, Spain, that had a sign that gave the prices for the menu del dia and it cost three or four MORE euros to sit on the patio. First time we had ever seen that. So amazing you only had to have a reservation to sit INSIDE. Especially because I hear you have been having great weather.
Wow, I’ve never seen anyplace where you have to pay extra to sit outside. I guess that’s one way to make a little extra because they figure most people will want to sit outside in good weather. Be funny if they charged you extra to sit inside in the winter.
