Bergen is known for being a university town. Most of the college is centered in the heart of the city so the streets have the rushabout clamorous energy that students bring with them. Yesterday, after we checked in at our AirBnb, we walked down to the docks to mingle with the Saturday afternoon strollers and outdoor cafe imbibers.
A block away from a large plaza we heard an outburst from a sizable student crowd followed by a voice on a PA system leading them in a chant. I flashed back to 1971 thinking it was some kind of protest rally. We checked it out.
A mob of young sports fans were watching a soccer match, possibly one the playoffs for the Norwegian Football Cup, on a big screen. The viewing was sponsored by the bars and restaurants in the area.
