Bodø, a town of 55,000, is situated on the Norwegian Sea just a few degrees north of the Arctic Circle. During the Second World War, the town was mostly destroyed by the Germans. The town was rebuilt quickly and a train station and airport added.
Having only 2 hours to explore this town, called the Cultural Center of Northern Norway, I wanted to head straight to the street murals. Grubb wanted to visit the town’s museum. We walked by the murals on the way to the museum. How’s that for smooth compromising?
And then, oh darn, the Museum was closed for restoration. I am beginning to wonder, with all the museum closures we’ve run into, if this isn’t some sort of strategy to keep people working.
We came across the Bodø Cathedral, built in 1956, in the Nordic style. It immediately feels calming to walk inside. What a difference from the ornate cathedral in Trondheim.
The weather? 40 but feels like 31. Some sleet and icy rain.
A few buildings in Bodø
Very sleek and modern church. I might be converting to Lutheranism.
Maybe you should watch “Fanny and Alexander” first. Stark Nordic Lutheranism isn’t the most pleasant of the Protestant sects.
The Church of Norway is Evangelical-Lutheran and that sounds pretty strict.
