Today, a light, late lunch at the restaurant in the Fotografiska museum.
A bottle of sparkling water for Grubb, white wine for me and a view for both of us.
Baked tomatoes with cream cheese, pickled onions, on chard for me.
Potatoes with asparagus and caviar for Grubb.
Dinner was a mish-mash of stuff from the Coop, like herring, lox, cheese, olives, pumpernickel (that lovely thick, grainy type). And for dessert, our one purchase from the Nobel Prize Museum. Dark chocolate.
Oh my gosh. Those vegetables.
I was craving some good, tasty vegetables. And I know you know that asparagus is different here. Big thick whitish succulent stalks.
Germans love these white asparagus. In Germany “spargelzeit” (asparagus time) is from mid April through June 24.
I’m not crazy about the white asparagus. But they often put it in the mixed salads in Spain (ensaladas mixtas). I’ll eat it but Charlie won’t touch it. It’s probably not as good quality as you guys got. But I’m not sure if we’ve ever had it fresh. I think the stuff we’ve had was canned (at least canned in glass jars — we often see it in the grocery stores).
I don’t think this asparagus was canned or jarred, at least it didn’t have that taste. I thought it was pretty good. I remember seeing it in market stalls in Spain.
