Contemporary art museums are always a risky proposition. No matter what’s on exhibit, they’re usually located in a part of town that’s far from the tourist trade, places with a lot of warehouses and abandoned factories. The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation is on a part of an island that on this Saturday was so empty of life it was scary.
The building I thought was a shoe-in for the museum turned out to be a very quiet police station.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, contemporary art museums are a mixed bag, but there’s always on exhibit that strikes my interest. The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation was an anomaly in that regard. Unless you consider tiny photographs of naked women armed with chainsaws to be on the cutting edge (no pun intended), the exhibits were unremarkable.
These niches summed it up for me.
