You are really lucky today. Two days in one post.
Saturday, June 3
At Millesgården, we shared a virtuous light snack in the museum cafe. A whole avocado cut into large chunks on thick pumpernickel. This was no wimpy Avocado toast.
Dinner, we went Danish. Maybe we didn’t get enough in Denmark. Nybroplan Smorrebrod was the name of the place.
Three Danish delights (the restaurant’s name for the dish). Smorrebrod is what we’d call an open face sandwich. So 1. A Brie-like cheese with apple chutney. 2. Ham with potato salad on top. 3. Lox.
Grubb had Marjet’s plate. Basically herring with potatoes, sour cream, dill sauce, crumbled hard boiled egg.
Sunday, June 4
By the time we got around to eating, it was 3:00 pm. Great time for a late lunch.
We began the hunt and ended up at Resturant Riche in the Nybroplan area. With a seat by the window, we were treated to some interesting action while we dined.
Grubb started with a Skagentost (a Scandinavian shrimp salad on toast). I had burrata. While watching a protest demonstration, anti-Erdoğan who has tried to keep Sweden out of NATO.
For main, we both had Swedish meatballs with lingonberries, pickled cucumber, and boiled small potatoes.
We got to watch horses parading by along with a stream of classic cars. I declined to pick up my phone to take pictures because, well, I was keeping an eye on Grubb so he wouldn’t steal my lingonberries.
It seems like the “small plate” phenomenon has taken over dining. The smorrebrod, tapas everywhere, tasting menus, etc. Everything looked yummy by the way.
Not that we were in very many, but we noticed that Smorrebrod places do tend to have tapas-type menus. It does make sense to offer the opportunity for customers to get more variety when they order. Plus, I’ll bet it adds up to more $.
