Arrived home late last night. A few air travel annoyances and delays but all in one piece.
We transited through Frankfurt – oy! United got a small corner in the far reaches and no gate space available for it’s planes. So we walk down three flights of stairs with luggage (yeah, no, we never check our bags), get packed like sardines into a public bus, driven to the plane, and made to walk up exceptionally narrow and steep stairs to board the plane.
After 9-1/2 uneventful hours, we were so close to Houston and then – it’s weather folks. We zigged and zagged and looped to avoid thunder storms adding about an extra 45 minutes. We went well out over the Gulf (didn’t think to take a second picture) before arcing back to Houston.
Still, we had a good time buffer with enough time to make it through passport control, customs and another TSA security check where the TSA Pre line was closed, so off came the jacket and shoes, out came the iPads…all that crazy stuff.
Unfortunately, one of the flight attendants for our Houston to ABQ flight was delayed somewhere – so we were delayed an hour waiting for her – and she got a round of applause when she arrived out of breath.
But hey, in Albuquerque, there was an Uber only 2 minutes away and we live 10 minutes from the airport so in the end, we were home only about an hour later than expected.
Unpacking is simply throwing all the clothes into the laundry basket. Eventually, the laundry fairy will put them through the wash.
My car started right up this morning and I zipped right over to the garden store for the all important garden soil and tomato plants (and a couple of poblano plants also). After wheeling the bags into the backyard, I said, “yep, that’s it for me today”. It was still a winter garden when we left so I admired the blooming desert willows, jujube, salvias, chocolate flowers and frowned at the profusion of weeds. There is always tomorrow for that.
Grubb’s car need some help getting it’s mojo back but our little charger thingie did the trick and he headed for the grocery store.
I, or maybe I should say “we” since I do believe Grubb shares the opinion, that anywhere in Scandinavia is a great place for a journey. Whether you are looking for natural beauty and outdoor active life or cultural experiences in the cities or a ride on a ferry-not-a-cruise to the arctic regions – or all of the above, you’ll find it in Scandinavia. I feel we barely scratched the surface.
Here’s the last photo I took in Stockholm. A mantra for our travels: “Take it slow and hang on!”
Thanks once again for letting us share our travels with you.
Until the next time…
Loved your travel blog and glad that you had a wonderful adventure AND made it back without major challenges. Welcome home!
Thanks MP! And you’ve been busy. Looking forward to seeing the new quilts in person next month.
We had the same experience at the Munich airport coming home last summer, only it was a Lufthansa flight to Denver. And while we normally check bags, we didn’t this time because of a tight connection in Denver. Some nice younger (female) person helped me lug the luggage up the portable stairway they use to get you from the ground to the door of the plane — the kind President Biden is always using to get on to Air Force 1, only he doesn’t have to deal with the luggage.
