Onward. On Monday, after the trip down mom’s memory lane in Norwich and Preston with our able guides Sharen and Tom, we said adios to Connecticut and headed to Massachusetts for a Break-Fast dinner at Michelle and Joe’s with Elaine and Joe in Natick (Massachusetts). The rain never let up. The good news is that Connecticut and Massachusetts drivers know how to handle all that water.
Who are all these people? Joe is my first cousin (brother to Sharen and Barry). Michelle is my second cousin, daughter of Joe and Elaine. Michelle’s husband is also named Joe.
What is a Break-Fast dinner? Monday was the end of the Jewish High Holy days, Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement. One attends synagogue all day and fasts (from sunset the day before to sunset on Yom Kippur) while contemplating one’s missteps of the past year and resolves not to make those same errors again. This is a condensed explanation. Of course there are nuances and differences between the different sects of Judaism.
We met Michelle, Joe, Elaine and Joe at Michelle’s at 7pm and of course, they were all famished from the 24 hours of fasting so in no time we were sitting down to a meal of kugel, lox and other delectables. Followed by a dessert of cobbler and ice cream. And then we headed up Route 27, following Elaine and Joe to their home in Sudbury.
Today (Tuesday), Elaine and Joe are whisking us into Boston for a tour of the Freedom Trail, a “Duck” tour, and an Italian dinner in Boston’s north end. Stand by for that report.
Michelle is actually your first cousin once removed. Michelle is second cousin to Logan Brendan and Keagan! Your dad taught me how to read a family tree!!! :>) Have fun!!!
Thanks Sharen. And you even told me that before and I forgot.
