That’s right, it happened while we were walking along a trail in the Boothbay Botanical Gardens (which, given its size and woodsy paths, should be called a Botanical Forest). The rock to my right had an opening that, according to a kindly lady in a golf cart, was designed by an artist who claimed it led to another dimension.
When I stepped through the stone portal I found myself by the same trees I had been standing under. So no magic. Ducking back out to join Ella, I wasn’t so sure. There was a sense that something was different. I quickly checked the newsfeed on my phone. Trump wasn’t president…yet. So, okay, maybe I was just psyched out. Still…I’ve noticed since we’ve been traveling, more and more people are ignoring the beauty of their surroundings by staring into their phones. Have they entered the same portal? Are they experiencing the same unease? The feeling that something is different we just don’t know what it is. So we came out east to visit Ella’s cousins and see the sights and I ended up in a parallel universe. Not bad.
