Yesterday we took an old fashioned country drive through the islands of Lake Champlain.
We pulled into Knight Point State Park for a gander at the shoreline.
We gave consideration to taking a ferry over to Plattsburgh, NY but opted to continue through Lake Champlain. We stopped at a modern version of a general store in Hero where I scored a bottle of cranberry wine from a local vineyard.
We cruised through Alburgh (spitting distance from Canada) hoping for a cutsie cafe with cappuccino- no joy there, took a nature hike in the Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge (separate post), stopped in Milton for a creemee only to find the place closed for the season…geesh.
We kept to the back roads, wandering through farmland bordering the lake.
A gentle day.
Dang it when those creemee stands close for the season. Lake Champlain waterfront (near the ECHO museum), has a snack bar that I think has creemees year round. Just FYI- if you’re still in BTV-H
We leave tomorrow but Mary suggested Burlington Bay Cafe which looks open for breakfast. A blackberry creemee has all the right food groups I’d think. 😎
Mary’s idea sounds great. So glad you both enjoyed the Shelburne Museum. That was my “get-away” place when I was at UVM (the 70’s!). I liked to go there for the quiet and the beautiful landscaping.
That photo of the “abandoned something” = barn.
Thank you for sharing VT photos-and for the “shout outs.” Heartwarming. ❤️
