The drive we took on Sunday from Sunderland, Vermont to Providence, Rhode Island got us into Providence late in the afternoon. This gave us enough time to twist our way through the cramped downtown streets and visit the museum at the Rhode Island School of Design before it closed at five.

RISD has a good reputation, so even though I was wiped out from the drive I was hopeful that the exhibits would perk me up. The student at the reception desk gave us deliriously cheerful directions to the third floor. Okay, cannabis dispensaries are everywhere, but I still felt like we were being admitted to a mental institution. Nevertheless, the third floor held some surprises. Ella was taken by a geometric array of 5X7 photos of couples silhouetted in the sunset.

I enjoyed Takeda Hideo’s silkscreen of a tattooed man squatting to take care of business.

Returning to our car we passed by a witty sign outside a church.
