A little more than a century ago La Boca was the port that saw hundreds of thousands of immigrants arrive. Second only to New York at that time for grand relocation, it differed in that there was no Ellis Island to filter the newcomers. Walking around the streets it certainly seems the Italians left their mark. But now the port is quiet. Shipping has gone elsewhere. The bay is less busy than coves in Cape Cod. The crowds thronging the colorful streets come by bus, or taxi. There was no boating on the bay the day we were there.
