Argentina consists of 4 regions (Andes, North, Pampas, Patagonia) which contain 23 provinces. The province of Buenos Aires contains the federal district, City of Buenos Aires (CABA) which is quite small in area. In addition to the federal district, there are 48 barrios within the province. Population of the province of Buenos Aires is around 15 million. And by the way, Argentina has a population of 46 million. So nearly one third of Argentinians live in Buenos Aires.
We’ve been to the barrios of La Boca, San Telmo, Palermo and Recoleta, which is where we are staying. Back in the 1870’s, rich families fled the southern areas of the city (La Boca and San Telmo) during yellow fever and cholera epidemics, to build and settle in Recoleta. Recoleta remains one of the wealthier residential area in the province.
Yesterday we spent some time wandering the streets of our barrio. Here are a few photos of Recoleta.
The bookstore looks a lot nicer than the Albuquerque Barnes & Nobles. Did they have a large selection of books in English?
We didn’t see any books in English but it was a huge place and we weren’t really looking.
Looks very much like some of the cities we have been to in Spain. Loved the bookstore, and I’m glad to see that Grub got a little “Me” time along the way.
It is reminiscent of Spain although people called it the Paris of South America. I don’t really see it. An easy chair and a book will keep Grubb occupied for hours.
