In Spanish, the LL is pronounced as a ‘ya’. So Villa is pronounced Vee-ya. In Argentine Spanish, the pronunciation is Vee-cha. The LL is a ‘ch’ (as in church) sound.
I’ve been called Aya, Acha, and she. Just my luck to have a double LL name.
Ha ha, I’ve wondered how Spanish speakers reacted to your first name, Ella. Or should I say Echa? I gave up using “Wynette” in Spain a long time ago. Impossible. I use “Dorothy” (my actual first name and the name on my passport). I used to use “Dorotea” but then realized everyone seems to understand “Dorothy”, I think because of The Wizard of Oz.
That’s too funny!
Well, in Mexico Zapotec friends call me Maar-rc. Guess I got 2 a’s.
🤣
