I haven’t said much about our accommodations. They’ve all been pretty good. In Buenos Aires, we had an apartment in Recoleta. Everything worked just fine. You really can’t get far from the noise but at least being on the 7th floor, the traffic sounds were muffled. But not the drunken singing in the middle of the night.
In El Calafate, we had a casita behind our host’s house. Small but fun. Although the narrow, steep stairs up to the bed in the loft were a challenge for the arthritic old man. WiFi sucked. Being a small town and being up the hill from the one main street, traffic noise was negligible, but then there are the dogs of Calafate and sometimes one would get it into its head that it needed to sound the alarm for a few hours. That and someone practicing electric bass guitar at full volume starting around two a.m.
Cordoba. The place was great. Really central location. Fast WiFi. 9th floor so only muffled traffic noise. And wee hour drunken singing. Sweet terraces to sip coffee on, if only it weren’t rainy and cold.
And now Bariloche. An apartment on the shore of Lago Nahuel Huapi, 7 km from the city of Bariloche. Sitting in the little garden, all you can hear is the lapping of the water. Follow the owner’s cat down the stairs and stand on the stoney beach staring at the Andes. Every room has a large window with a view.
