The #20 bus travels the Av. Bustillo route that follows the road out of Bariloche up the coast of Nahuel Huapi. Yesterday, after searching for a Sube card and discovering the small kiosk that sold them on a backstreet in Bariloche, we caught #20 bus on another backstreet (still no dogs!). Being Sunday, it was packed. I figured we would end up standing for the 25 minute ride to Llao-Llao, the lookout point where we were heading. Ah, but those gracious Argentinians. A man had his child stand up and I was quickly offered a seat. Feeling like an old man is one thing; it comes with the septuagenarian territory and I’m accustomed to dealing with it as a private concern. But to have it recognized the minute I get on a bus is still a shock. Somehow I think I can bluff the general public even though 80% of them rush by me on the street. The bluff meister days are gone, but at least I’m not left standing.
I can relate, Grubb. I no longer feel guilty taking a seat on a bus. Always taken aback when someone offers me one.
