Travel morning. Up before the crack of dawn. I’d booked a taxi for 4:45am. By 5:15 we were at the airport. The first ones. The guards were just waking up. Security screening not open until 5:30 they said. Which came and went. At 6am the screeners showed up. We were first in line. We skated through screening and made a bee line for the coffee.
Have you ever been the first ones at the airport? The first through screening? The first in line at the airport cafe? It was a first for us but it’s not something we ever aspired to. We could have slept another 30 minutes.
The flight to Mendoza followed the Andes straight up. We’ve left Patagonia and entered the desert. Left side of the plane – snow-capped peaks. Right side of plane- flat brown and dry.
Landed in Mendoza which is the hub for Argentine wine-making. Our apartment was not quite ready so we walked down the block to Mucho Coffee. Where Grubb had a mucho grande cappuccino. And yes please on the fresh squeezed orange juice. I had huevos with toast. Grubb had a medialuna with ham and cheese.
