Mendoza = a province. Population 2 million.
Mendoza = a city in the province which is also the capital of the province. Population 1.2 million.
In area, Mendoza province is roughly half the size of New Mexico.
The city, settled in 1561 by Spaniards from Chile, is a tourist draw for wine connoisseurs. The province is the major grape growing area in Argentina and is famous for its Malbec. But more on that after our excursion to vineyards tomorrow.
Yesterday we took to the streets, wandering our new neighborhood. Although we’d seen a sprawling shanty town on the outskirts of the city during our cab drive into the city from the airport, this neighborhood is mostly residential and one of the more upscale areas in the city.
There is an eclectic mix of architecture and materials.
What do these pictures say about each of us? And note, from layered up in Patagonia to short sleeves in Mendoza. Temp in high 70’s and sunny.
After our walking, time to eat.
That is a big province if it’s half as big as NM. That food looks good.
