All I can say right now is this is where we were today. More to come.

Many years ago I went to Everest Base Camp (elevation about 17,000 feet; Everest is 29,035). In Kathmandu I bought our five and seven year old grandchildren t-shirts with a stitched pattern of Everest and the words “my grandfather went to Everest Base Camp.” Alec, the seven year old, wore his to school. The teacher asked him if his grandfather really went to Everest Base Camp. He said ”yeah, but he didn’t climb it.”
It would have been a beautiful, if arduous hike to the first Aconcagua base camp. I wonder if your grandkids still have those T shirts as souvenirs of the grandfather’s non trek to Everest. The closest I ever came to Everest was bicycling through the foothills of the Himalayas.
Do you remember when our then governor, Gary Johnson, climbed Everest? We happened to be on a Southwest flight when he was flying home from that trip. I was waiting to use the bathroom in the back and recognized him standing next to me in line. I said something like “I think you might be Gary Johnson and you just climbed Mt Everest.” He said he was. I asked him what the best part was and he said “Summiting”.
