Talking to an American woman we ran into at the airport in El Calafate we found out that, coming back from the Iguazu Falls, she had spent a few days in Montevideo. How was it? She grimaced, “The water was brown!”
So yesterday, after flying in from Mendoza, we took a ferry out of Buenos Aires to Colonia, Uruguay where we’re staying for a couple of days. Chugging out of the Buenos Aires port we rounded a bend and I looked ahead and thought, for some unfathomable reason, we were heading for a wide sandbar. As we chugged on I realized that it wasn’t sand, but water, brown water. Ahoy! We must be entering Uruguayan territory! And sure enough, my watch buzzed to remind me that our AT&T coverage was good in Uruguay.
The Colonia Express ferry was large enough to hold a soccer team and its fans and hundreds of other travelers and still seem comfortable and roomy. We were throbbing through a sea of coffee. Lulled by the boat churning a latte in its wake, I caught some shut eye.
