Bread and water

Post by Grubb with additions by Ella

So far on this trip I’ve eaten more meat than the nineteenth century mountain men I’ve read about, but two nights ago we entered a zone of carnivorous excess that was the height of Roman Empire decadence. If it had a hoof, we ate it. Each entry in the meat attack was grilled to perfection which made it difficult to stop eating.

Yesterday I didn’t have much of an appetite, but I had booked a reservation at a popular seafood restaurant and felt I’d work up an appetite if we walked. Mistake. When the food was served I just stared at it.

Today all I’m indulging in is bread and water. The thought of anything else makes me ill. As it happens, bread and water is not a bad choice in Buenos Aires on May 1st since it is a national holiday and most places are closed.

Ella would like to insert…Grubb failed to mention that bread and water did not magically appear at our apartment door. Nope. I scoured the streets of Palermo looking for any open little bakery or shop I could find.

If Grubb eats all his bread, he can have a muffin.

    That’s good looking bread.

It’s a national holiday here in Spain as well. Labor Day.

Last year we were in Oslo trying to navigate the Labor Day parades there. Pretty quiet here. Maybe in the capitol area there is more going on. Any parades over there?

It was hard to find any bread (except the package store stuff). Bakeries have mostly pastries and a small section of bread. And Labor Day so many were closed.
