Jam packed day along with jam packed streets. We began the day at the Musée du Louvre (Grubb will post about that, um, “experience”), twiddled through the Jardin des Tuileries, strolled the Champs-Élysées, eyed the Arc de Triomphe, hopped a metro to the National Georges Pompidou Centre of Art and Culture (being a spur of the moment choice, we hadn’t bought tickets in advance and opted to forgo the long lines), gawked in delight at the Stravinsky fountain, crawled along Rue San Martin and ended with a metro ride back to our neighborhood where we shuffled into a market for baguette, fromage, lox and prosciutto. And a red bell pepper for a token vegetable. That was dinner.
But let’s get back to that Stravinsky fountain. Tucked around the corner from the Centre Pompidou, what a hidden delight this is. Whimsical and surreal. The fountain contains 16 moving, water-spraying sculptures meant to evoke Stravinsky compositions. Created in 1983 by sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Pholie, it was the highlight of the day.
Grubb did several little videos capturing the movement of the sculptures which we may upload later but you can also find videos on YouTube of course.
Who can name the Stravinsky compositions captured here. No fair googling.
