Rodin’s realistic and giant depictions of the human body never cease to confound. The sense of tension in nearly every piece rarely fail to evoke emotion. Horror in the case of the Burghers of Calais when you know these six sacrificed themselves to King Edward III for the “greater good”. Passion when gazing at the embraced lovers in The Kiss.

Plus you get the sense that every male model Rodin used was a gym rat. Muscles fully engaged.
We toured Rodin’s house and sculpture garden on Sunday, late morning. I expected to find a crush of people. Instead, we found we were able to take our time and enjoy.

The most surprising and for me, the best part, a Van Gogh hanging on the wall in the stately home. “Pere Tanguay” who was Van Gogh’s paint supplier.

I know Grubb is planning a post on Rodin involving the Gates of Hell so I’ll stop here.
What a neat Van Gogh. Seems different from his usual famous paintings.
You are right. It is not like his others. The quality of the light is amazing
