Montmartre is known as the artist’s neighborhood and worth a few hours of exploring. The Sacre Couer is located up at the top of a hill and if you brave the 197 steep steps, the reward is a spectacular view. (Spoiler…there is also a funicular if your knees are too rickety). Many cafes and shops line the streets. There is a particular square where artists are allowed to sell their wares but must have a certificate to do so. Only the best are allowed. Monmarte is also famous for the Moulin Rouge. Still operating.
First thing Monday morning (somewhere around a respectable 10:30) we decided to walk to Montmartre. It was only 30 minutes from our place. Come along with us.
We started the descent, going down two flights of stairs and then walked up the block. I stayed in a co-op apartment complex when I was here in 2018. This might have been the place.
We headed down again and felt it was time for some sugar.
From here we headed to the Moulin Rouge and Rue Pigatelle and then left the neighborhood by metro because of course Grubb wanted to see Napoleon’s tomb. I’ll let him take it from here.
