Ghosts, goblins, skeletons, and witches…it’s Halloween in Nice!
I am ecstatic to be out of Paris. Just walking off our EasyJet flight into the fresh sea air was rejuvenating. We couldn’t figure out how to get a one way tram ticket from the airport into Nice so we hailed an Uber. Checked into our AirBnB about 4 blocks from the azure ocean. Shed jackets. Ambled out.

And that’s when we saw them. Little 🧙♀️witches, 👹goblins, ☠️skeletons, 👻ghosts carrying 🎃pumpkin shaped plastic baskets. Groups of kids with a cadre of parents and grandparents troup up and down the cobblestone streets calling in at cafes and shops for treats. “Ou un sort!” Literal translation: “or a spell”).

We watched the parade of creatures as we dined. Caprese salad to start followed by grilled sardines with ratatouille and potatoes for me. with a glass of petit Chablis. House salad plus lamb shank for Grubb. It was hard to find the microscopic morsels of meat on the sardines but the ratatouille had a rich, spicy goodness. Grubb said no knife was needed for the tender lamb.

Who loves Halloween? If you do, what’s your costume?
Ah, I, too, am breathing a sigh of relief now that you are out of the city and down by the sea. And, ooh that food looks good.
That dinner was great!
Aren’t you supposed to eat the sardines bones and all?
Yes, probably.
