After we’d visited the monastery this morning and walked the 2 miles down the hill (yeah, okay, we did take the bus UP the hill) into the old city we plopped down at Le Tapenade, a tiny cafe with maybe 6 tables outside and a few more inside.
I did have a glass (well, 2 glasses) of a white wine from Provence. Grubb had Peligrino.
To start, I had ratatouille, and Grubb had grilled Camembert with bacon. The softened Camembert was wrapped in a thin fillo -like crust and the whole thing grilled.
We both opted for beef stew as our main meal.
Completely stuffed (no need for dinner, I wasn’t going to be able to eat a thing til tomorrow, unless…maybe…a little chocolate something or other), we headed for the Promenade for a walk along the sea.
I noticed an undeniable police presence. More than we’ve seen in the past week here in Nice. Bomb squad, SWAT type vehicles and foot patrol. Gave me pause. They were all lined up across from the promenade and in front of a row of casinos. Ready for action at any moment. But they were just sort of hanging out. What were they expecting I wonder?
Our week long visit here in Nice has been so much more pleasant than Paris (despite today’s police presence). Tomorrow we pack up, head to the airport to pick up a rental car and we are off to Arles.
Nice is so nice!
Yes! Such a difference from cold-hearted Paris.
