Early risers we were. Got out of the apartment by 9am. Whew hu! It was an easy walk with our luggage to the tram stop. Well, except the tram station for this stop turned out to be underground…down several flights of stairs. Easy 25 minute ride to the airport. We found the car rental center in the outer bounds of the parking lot and checked in at EuropaCar. Drove away in our compact Toyota and were in Arles 2.5 hours later. Only one missed turn. Nice toll roads.
We had studied the rules of the road the night before. Well, how it’s supposed to be. We discovered…The French don’t like to leave much space when they cut into your lane and truckers figure they can cut into your lane anytime they want cuz, hell, a compact Toyota will never win that fight.
And some fun road signs. We learned them (and many more). What’s your guess about what these three mean?
In Arles we found a city parking garage with slots meant for cars even smaller than ours.
We had a couple hours until we could check into our AirBnB so we found some cappuccinos to bring back the zip in our steps. And what did we see right across the cafe?
While futzing with the google map of the town on my phone I saw something called the Van Gogh Foundation was close by. Zippity zip and off we went.
And take it away Grubb. He says he will fill you in on “La Haute Note Jaune” (the high yellow note) exhibition.
But I do have a photo or two of my favorites from the exhibition.
And the view from the terrace
My road sign guesses:
X: “Do not enter” or “Beware of Elon Musk social media”
Arrow: “Intersection with smaller road ahead” or “Beware of Elon Musk rockets”
Triangle: “Caution” or “Beware of nuclear waste”
🤪🤣
