I’ve come face-to-face with this Egyptian god of the underworld and protector of graves. He has the body of a man with a canine head, so even from a distance he’s hard to miss.
I first ran into him while moiling through the Louvre. I was trying to skirt the crowd and there he was right in front of me blocking my way. We mad-dogged each other for a moment before a gap in the flow of visitors allowed me to move on.
I squared off again with him in Monte Carlo. He was guarding the casino (which some people might imagine isn’t all that bad a venue for the underworld). I didn’t think about it much until we happened, without design, to find ourselves walking through hilltop graveyards in both Menton and Nice which of course recalled the cemeteries in Paris. Arriving in France, I didn’t think he was going to be my guide…
Scary lookin dude !
