Our apartment in Avignon has equaled our place in Nice. A spacious two bedroom, separate kitchen and living room, two full bathrooms. On Rue Victor Hugo no less.
We’d arranged to meet host Adrien in front of the building (on Monday) to get the keys and get checked in. A few minutes after the arranged time, he texted that he’d been arrested by police. That was it. End of message. We were wondering if he was now behind bars and if we’d have to quickly find another accommodation. I started a conversation with AirBnB support chat, but a few minutes later, our host appeared. He explained he has a new vehicle and didn’t yet have the proper registration displayed. He was “stopped”, not “arrested “. Blame the translation.
A locked front gate leads to a small courtyard which leads to the front door of the building. It may have been a single residence at one time but now there are four apartments, one on each floor. We are on the top (third floor). One more flight leads to our private terrace. Too cold and windy to enjoy.
After putting our luggage in the lift (because it wasn’t a people lift), and as we followed Adrien up 4 flights of stairs, he asked what we thought of the recent election. Hearing our vehement reaction he said he didn’t understand how the American people had elected this horrible person not once, but twice.
Well, elections aside, maybe we have a little problem with the heat in the apartment. The thermostat is not so straight forward. Today (Tuesday) the apartment got chilled. Our host finally sent a nice downstairs neighbor up to check on it. He said it was the first cold day today. It took him awhile to figure it out. We shall see if it gets warm enough for me to take off my down jacket and knit cap.
So here is the place.
