Five Star Women’s Bathroom

Posted on September 18, 2023September 18, 2023 by Ella

Have you ever flown into the Providence airport? We were tipped off by cousins Barry and Deirdre that this would be a lot easier than flying into Boston because driving out of Boston was a major headache. The Providence airport is small. Smaller even than Albuquerque. There is only one terminal with a total of…

Post by Ella. We have started on our latest travel adventure. Part 1: Visit the cousins! We flew into Providence, RI today, picked up our rental car then made tracks for Cape Cod where we are excited to visit Barry & Dierdre, and Marc & Judi, conveniently located in Barnstable and Harwich, respectively. And by…

Post by Ella. Arrived home late last night. A few air travel annoyances and delays but all in one piece. We transited through Frankfurt – oy! United got a small corner in the far reaches and no gate space available for it’s planes. So we walk down three flights of stairs with luggage (yeah, no,…

Traveling makes me happy

Posted on June 7, 2023June 7, 2023 by Ella

Post by Ella. And excited and exhausted and reflective and exasperated and alive. Closing out this journey, as at the end of most journeys, i have mixed feelings. There is a pull to be back in my own place, my own comfort zone. But there is so much I will miss. I could keep traveling…

Our route, Wednesday, June 7

Posted on June 7, 2023June 7, 2023 by Ella

We moved to the Comfort Hotel at the Arlanda airport. Via metro to Stockholm’s T-Central and then the Arlanda express train to Arlanda airport. The very same train that derailed 10 days ago. Today was the first day back in action. Only an 18 minute ride in smooth comfort. And it stayed on the tracks….

Post by Ella Seen in the metro trains I thought this might be about getting a booster shot, but no…it was for a real estate search engine, kind of like Zillow.

Genderless

Posted on June 6, 2023 by Ella

Post by Ella Most WC’s (the loo, toilet, washroom, restroom, did I forget any?) we’ve been in across Scandinavia and the Netherlands are all-gender. The signs usually have both the male and female icons on the door. But here is one that carried the theme a little further. You might find simply rows of little…

Our route, Tuesday, June 6

Posted on June 6, 2023June 6, 2023 by Ella

Today was the National Day of Sweden which celebrates first: Gustav Vasa being elected king (6 June 1523) and second: the adoption of a new constitution (6 June 1809). Crowds gather, speeches are given, royalty makes a presence, the Air Force does a flyover. We decided that instead of avoiding the crowds, we would dive…

Our route, Monday, June 5

First off we took the metro and then a totally packed tram to Nordiska, a museum full of Nordic stuff. Where everyone was going with their big strollers and little kids on a Monday morning, it wasn’t this museum. Next, by bus to the Stockholm Public Library. You might wonder why in the heck…but wait…

Tunnelbana art

Posted on June 5, 2023 by Ella

Out of 100 Tunnelbana stations (T-bana, metro, subway, trains that go underground) in the greater Stockholm area, about 90 have been artistically accessorized. As an ending to the day on Sunday, we decided to explore a few stops on the T11 blue line. We happened to be near T-Centralen so that’s where we started. Today,…

“Looking into a Mirror Sideways”

Posted on June 4, 2023 by Ella

Post by Ella Laurie Anderson is someone who passed me by. I was never a fan, or not a fan. I was aware of her as a unique artist. Would saying “singularly unique” be redundant? At any rate, I simply didn’t pay much attention.  When we found out the Modern Museum in Stockholm was having…

The Daily Food Report

You are really lucky today. Two days in one post. Saturday, June 3At Millesgården, we shared a virtuous light snack in the museum cafe. A whole avocado cut into large chunks on thick pumpernickel. This was no wimpy Avocado toast. Dinner, we went Danish. Maybe we didn’t get enough in Denmark. Nybroplan Smorrebrod was the…

Interiors

Posted on June 4, 2023 by Ella

Post by Ella. We posted photos of the sculptures at Millesgårten yesterday (see Grubb’s Sat, June 3, “In the garden of the heroic”) but didn’t post any interiors. This was also the residence of Carl Milles, the sculptor and his wife, Olga, an artist in her own right. The residence was built in 1908 for…
